Mencari Al Ghazali: Berbekal Beras Usang, Lewat Wadi Gersang

Salakkan dan ejekkan Rudin X selama ini tentang substansi (hakikat) dan corak kepimpinan UMNO [1] terbukti tepat bila Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman dilapurkan menasihati barisan politikus UMNO Johor supaya menghindari lapan perkara bagi memastikan diri mereka benar-benar berintegriti.

Lapan perkara yang dimaksudkan itu ialah tamak kuasa, dendam, kebencian, hasad dengki, ketaksuban kepada seseorang, oportunis, mementingkan diri dan politik wang [2].

Reaksi pertama Rudin X bila terjeling tajuk berita itu ialah – Huuuuah! Baru sekarang UMNO terlintas untuk mengeluarkan “fatwa” dan petua; terhidayah menggariskan model prinsip kepimpinan? Setelah imej kepimpinan Melayu hancai bancai mejadi bahan jenaka antarabangsa [3]. Setelah habis kepentingan besar ekonomi Melayu terlacur dan sebahagian bumi Johor dijual borong, baru nak kenang apa itu fungsi kepimpinan.

Apakah gerangan dengan Ghani Othman sampai terdorong menoleh ke arah itu? Adakah kerana maklum balas dari lapangan membayangkan sokongan Melayu Johor sudah mula membereng ke arah PAS? Sama-samalah kita spekulasikan jawapan bagi persoalan-persoalan ini.

Bagi Rudin X, sebenarnya jika UMNO dan barisan kepimpinannya tidak munafik [4], se-aslinya mempunyai niat baik terhadap bangsa dan negara, Ghani Othman tidak perlu “pecah kepala” memikirkan petua cetek seperti itu.

Kot ya dah canang hebahkan mencari Al Ghazali [5a], [5b], rukunkan sebagai wajib dalam Islam Hadhari [6], hatta dalam perlembagaan UMNO itu sendiri [7], [8], prinsip-prinsip yang Al Ghazali perturunkan dalam kitab Nasihat al-Muluk [9], [10].

Di bawah diperturunkan sedutan (malangnya saya tidak bertemu yang sudah diterjemahkan ke bahasa Melayu, dan saya sendiri kurang arief dalam hal-hal penterjemahan) antara prinsip yang Al Ghazali fatwakan [11].

  1. The ruler should understand the importance and danger of the authority entrusted to him. In authority there is great blessing, since he who exercises it righteously obtained unsurpassed happiness but if any ruler fails to do so he incurs torment surpassed only by the torment for unbelief.
  2. The ruler should always be thirsting to meet devout religious scholars and ask them for advice.
  3. The ruler should understand that he must not covet the wives of other men and be content with personally refraining from injustice, but must discipline his slave-troops, servants, and officers and never tolerate unjust conduct by them; for he will be interrogated not only about his own unjust deeds but also about those of his staff.
  4. The ruler should not be dominated by pride; for pride gives rise to the dominance of anger, and will impel him to revenge. Anger is the evil genius and blight of the intellect. If anger is becoming dominant it will be necessary for the ruler in all his affairs to bend his inclinations in the direction of forgiveness and make a habit of generosity and forbearance unless he is to be like the wild beasts.
  5. In every situation that arises, the ruler should figure that he is the subject and the other person is the holder of authority. He should not sanction for others anything that he would not sanction for himself. For if he would do so he would be making fraudulent and treasonable use of the authority entrusted to him.
  6. The ruler should not disregard the attendance of petitioners at his court and should beware of the danger of so doing. He should solve the grievances of the Muslims.
  7. The ruler should not form a habit of indulging the passions. Although he might dress more finely or eat more sumptuously, he should be content with all that he has; for without contentment, just conduct will not be possible.
  8. The ruler should make the utmost effort to behave gently and avoid governing harshly.
  9. The ruler should endeavor to keep all the subjects pleased with him. The ruler should not let himself be so deluded by the praise he gets from any who approach him as to believe that all the subjects are pleased with him. On the contrary, such praise is entirely due to fear. He must therefore appoint trustworthy persons to carry on espionage and inquire about his standing among the people, so that he may be able to learn his faults from men’s tongues.
  10. The ruler should not give satisfaction to any person if a contravention of God’s law would be required to please him for no harm will come from such a person’s displeasure.

Jika tiga atau empat tahun dulu UMNO itu jujur dengan Islam dan khazanah tamadunnya, dan tidak mengungkit nama-nama ulama besarnya semata-mata dalam riak yang pamer [12], [13], [14], semata-mata hendak menunjuk kepada dunia – akulah sufi, akulah Melayu-Islam yang boleh mempraktikkan aspek amalan Islam yang paling payah [15] – saya kira sudah tentu UMNO telah dapat mengkagumkan dunia dengan memperagakan keIslaman dalam pentadbiran Malaysia.

Tapi ini tidak, UMNO mulakan langkah dengan mencari yang ia langsung tidak dikenali, mencari sesuatu yang ia tidak punyai the faintest idea, the faintest clue. Sehubungan ini, pada pandangan saya, for all the damages you smarty pants have done, adalah lagi baik jika penasihat-penasihat UMNO belajar baca Alice in Wonderland dan mengambil iktibar dari situ untuk memerentah negara yang semakin menjurus kepada kacau bilau [16], [17], [18], [19].

Mulakan pemikiran strategi pilihan raya ke 12 kamu dengan memahami kata The Mock Turtle kepada Alice … Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic -- Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision [20].

Membaca cerita saudara mengenai Islam Hadhari atau ada kitakan Islam Ada Had dan Ada Hari.
